Police search for 2 suspects after police chase ends in the Bronx

A manhunt put a nearby school on lockdown after police say they tried to stop a stolen vehicle from Mount Vernon in Wakefield on Thursday.

Police say an officer was dragged by a vehicle he attempted to approach that was stolen. The BMW dragged the office about a block before it crashed into another car. They say that's when two suspects, a man and a woman, emerged from the vehicle and took off.

News 12 is told the officer did suffer minor injuries, but is expected to be OK.
Officials say an officer fired his gun during the pursuit that started in Mount Vernon but ended in Wakefield. They believe no one was on the receiving end of the shot.

The 47th Precinct in the Bronx also responded to the scene.

Officers surrounded the neighborhood and blocked off nearby roadways using K-9 units. Some of those roadways have since reopened.

A nearby school, Mount Saint Michaels Academy was placed on lockdown but that has since been lifted.
