Massapequa Park residents say they are frustrated with a broken sewer pipe that has been taking over five years to repair.

A break was initially discovered in the sewage pipe beneath Lindbergh Street. Homeowners say instead of replacing the broken pipe, Nassau County has done patchwork to try to fix the damage.

"Our lives are turned completely upside down," says Ann Kaletcher.

Kaletcher and her neighbors say the "Band-Aid" approach has resulted in on and off repair work for five years and counting.

Samantha Bascetta says her children can't play outside because the roadwork has caused several sink holes on the block.

"It's dangerous for us and the kids - constant construction," Bascetta says.

Others say they are not able to park in front of their houses and the constant digging is causing plumbing problems.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman says the problem with the sewage pipe was worse than anticipated. He says the latest round of repairs will take another two to five weeks.

"I want to stress that it's important that we do it right rather than do it quickly," Blakeman says.
