A large tree branch fell onto Bronx Boulevard in Wakefield on Sunday morning, completely blocking the road. This has caused significant disruption, preventing both vehicles and pedestrians from passing through the area.
The blockage is located near a ramp for the Bronx River Parkway, which is likely to create even more traffic problems until the debris is cleared. The FDNY received a report at 7:30 a.m. about the tree falling onto a car.
One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no visible signs of emergency personnel when News 12 crews arrived, but some car parts were spotted among the branches. News 12 received the following statement from the New York City Parks department:
We are addressing the tree at this location as quickly as possible. Our expert foresters and operations staff are hard at work responding to tree conditions.
We thank New Yorkers for their patience as we work through several service requests we’ve received citywide. We ask that tree conditions be reported to 311. In cases of true emergency, New Yorkers should call 911.
