4h agoMayor Eric Adams and the Department of Transportation kicked off the beginning of Gun Hill Road's redesign project in the Bronx.
Construction workers on Gun Hill Road and Webster Avenue mapped out where painted lines and concrete curbs are expected to be added at 25 intersections. The additions are intended to discourage speeding, improve visibility between drivers and pedestrians, and help prevent crashes on a street that the mayor has referred to as one of the most dangerous in the Bronx.
The mayor's office says there are five people injured in crashes on the street every week on average.
The project will add more than 3 miles of camera-enforced bus lanes and safety improvements, like shorter crossings that they hope will improve the commute of 40,000 daily bus riders. Commuters who spoke to News 12 were excited about the change.
Those who travel along the road should be prepared to see some delays. The most disruption to traffic due to the project will take place now through June.
