All eyes have been on the COVID-19 positivity rate this week as Mayor Eric Adams is expected to announce changes to the mask policy.
The average positivity rate in New York City is 1.09%. The Bronx is sitting at 0.79%. Now are these numbers low enough to allow public school students to sit in class without a mask? Mayor Adams says he will be looking at the numbers and data across the city today and making the final call.
It has been a long time coming and a request from many parents. Starting as soon as Monday, New York City public school students could have the option of whether or not they want to wear a mask to school.
This comes after guidance from the CDC says that most Americans can now safely take a break from wearing masks, including students in schools. On Wednesday, the Archdiocese of New York lifted the mask mandate in line with Gov. Kathy Hochul no longer requiring masks in schools across the state. School's Chancellor David Banks says we are expecting to see the same from the public schools across the city.
