Mayor Eric Adams signed a collection of bills aimed to combat the disproportionate maternal mortality rate among Black women.
The bills the mayor signed include better access to data on maternal mortality, as well as a public education campaign to raise awareness on the benefits of midwives.
Brooklyn Council Member Althea Stevens joined Mayor Adams at the signing today, to discuss the passage of these new bills.
"I'm just honored to be here and making sure that the lives that have been lost are being honored as we sign these bills into law," said Stevens.
The mayor said these bills will codify the citywide doula initiative launched earlier this year.
