Mayor Bill de Blasio released a video Monday explaining the safety measures that will be in place for the upcoming school year.
He says schools will have all the supplies and personal protective equipment they need. The city will send supplies in bulk before the school year starts and will constantly resupply whatever is needed.
As a precaution, the city will provide:
  • 4 million masks
  • 3.5 million bottles of hand sanitizer
  • 80,000 containers of disinfectant wipes
  • Over 10,000 maintenance staff and electrostatic sprayers, who will clean the buildings after school and high-touch zones multiple times a day
  • 210,000 signs on safety
The mayor also says a new hotline will be in place for principals to expedite the delivery of supplies.
"I want to thank everyone who's apart of this, all the custodial service staff that's working so hard. I've met a lot of these men and women. They care deeply for our kids. They're doing this work because they know how important it is to get it right," says de Blasio.
Chancellor Richard Carranza will be doing spot inspections unannounced to make sure safety standards are in place before school is back in session.
