Mayor Bill de Blasio expressed hope for New York City’s vaccination effort on
the one-year anniversary of the state’s first reported coronavirus case.
The mayor says Friday marked a record high in the city with more than 76,000
New Yorkers vaccinated in a day.
De Blasio says that number is the beginning of what is to come for the
vaccination rate as the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is expected to come to
the city Tuesday.
The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
approved the new vaccine for
emergency use for anyone over the age of 18.
De Blasio emphasized that the city has the staffing and facilities necessary to
increase vaccine appointments, and all that is needed is an increase in vaccine
supply.
Johnson & Johnson’s coronavirus vaccine is also single-dose, which could help that supply.
He hopes to have more New
Yorkers vaccinated each week in all five boroughs.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the state’s clinical advisory task force has also recommended the Johnson & Jonhson vaccine for use in New York.
