Mayor Bill de Blasio toured one of the city's newest vaccination sites in Co-op City Saturday.
The location opened Thursday, and operates between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. every day except for Sundays.
Those receiving vaccines at the facility will get the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine so no second appointment is needed.
Officials say the Co-op City center can vaccinate around 1,000 people a day when working at full capacity. The vaccination site will serve almost 44,000 residents - most of them elderly.
The mayor says it came together quickly at the call of Rep. Jamaal Bowman, who worked to get more supply. Bowman also revealed for the first time that he had COVID-19 himself in November before getting vaccinated.
According to the New York City website, around 8% of resident of Co-op City have been fully vaccinated, which is the same amount as the rest of the borough.
The mayor says the city has also been able to start vaccinating people at home with the J&J vaccine. So far, 50 people in Co-op City have been vaccinated at home.
People can sign up for appointments in person.
