Mayor Bill de Blasio is calling on the federal government to lay down stricter rules for those traveling over the holidays.

The holiday season is right around the corner, and it's usually a time where thousands of people are traveling, but this year the mayor is advising people to think twice.

Mayor de Blasio is urging the federal government to act before the busy holiday seasons begins. He wants the government to mandate negative tests for all international and domestic travelers.

This means if you are planning to travel you must show proof that you tested negative within two weeks before you board a plane. Secondly, the mayor wants to start testing people at the airport.

There is currently a testing site at LaGuardia Airport, and the mayor says they're working on adding another one at John F. Kennedy Airport. The goal is to push all arriving travelers to get tested immediately, according to the mayor.

This is not mandatory yet, but it could be a reality if the government approves it.
