Mayor Bill de Blasio and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza shared their joy as the last set of public school students headed back to school Thursday morning.

Both Mayor de Blasio and Chancellor Carranza say that this morning was magical as the final group of students headed back into the classroom for in person education.

They say the key now is to keep those doors open.

Mayor de Blasio and the school's chancellor greeted students at One World Middle School in Claremont earlier in the day. They say welcoming back middle and high school students for in-person learning was smooth.

The mayor talked about how young people seem to quickly be adapting to all these new safety protocols, and the chancellor says when doing random visits to schools this week he found students abiding to the rules in place. They are now encouraging parents to sign their child up for random monthly testing.

They mayor says the test is not something students should be worried about, saying it is not the super invasive nasal swab, but the smaller one the just goes into the front of your nose.
