Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City could run out of coronavirus vaccines by Thursday if they are not given extra doses.
As of Tuesday, during his press briefing, de Blasio said the city had around 92,000 doses left for the week.
He says if the federal government does not act then they will have to start canceling vaccine appointments.
A 24/7 vaccine hub in Sunset Park has already been closed since Friday because the site doesn’t have any more doses.
De Blasio says that 220,000 doses were administered last week with around 500,000 delivered overall.
The mayor says the city is ready to give out more doses if they are available.
“The good news is we have the ability to do this faster and faster,” de Blasio says. “If we have the vaccine we needed, we could vaccinate 300,000 people this week.”
He says he hopes that President-elect Joe Biden will be true to his word in delivering 100 million doses of the vaccine in his first 100 days in office.
De Blasio says if the city is resupplied with vaccines, then three more mega vaccine sites are set to open.
The locations will be at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, Citi Field in Queens and Empire Outlets in Staten Island.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has also created a vaccine dashboard detailing the distribution of the vaccine throughout the state.
