Mayor De Blasio: More than 650,000 NYC residents vaccinated against coronavirus, more doses needed
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that more than 650,000 people have been vaccinated against the coronavirus so far, but he’s still not satisfied with the number of doses the city has been given.
De Blasio says the effort could be halted if more vaccines are not delivered to the boroughs. “We could be do much more if we had the supply,” he says.
The mayor is still concerned with the numbers being reported in the city, which show 230 patients hospitalized for suspected coronavirus cases, 4,844 new coronavirus cases on a seven-day rolling average and a 8.4% coronavirus positivity rate.
The city is also concerned with new variants of the coronavirus that appear spread more quickly. Moderna and Pfizer say their vaccines do offer protection against the variant from the United Kingdom.
Moderna says it is working on a booster shot for the variant from South Africa.
