Mayor Bill de Blasio paid a special visit to a West Farms church to discuss his future goals for the area.
During the mayor's speech to the congregation at New Tabernacle Baptist church, he touched upon various topics affecting the community and received his first endorsement for re-election from a Bronx city councilman.
The mayor boasted during his speech about how he has secured rent freezes two years in a row and said that moving forward he is focused on assuring people have a place to live, that they make more money and that New York City will remain accepting of all people. He also praised the NYPD's NCO program for improving police-community relations.
City Councilman Richie Torres says he is in full support of the mayor because his administration is investing half a billion dollars in the West Farms community. The money will go toward building two new schools and making housing and street repairs.
