Mayor Bill de Blasio announced several initiatives this week to curb the recent rise in violence seen across the five boroughs.
The End Gun Violence Plan came just days after one-year-old Davell Gardner was fatally shot at a barbecue in Bed-Stuy.
Increased police presence is now being seen in Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights, where the number of violent incidents have been high.
As part of an effort called Occupy the Hotspots, there will be a community presence in seven different locations in Central Brooklyn this weekend. De Blasio also says a lot of clergy will be out to work with the community.
An anti-gun violence task force will be starting work in Bed-Stuy next week. It will bring NYPD officials and community organizations together to work on long-term strategies.
The city is also organizing gun buyback events and street fairs to bring resources to youth and others in the community in an effort to stop future gun violence.
