Mayor Bill de Blasio says there are 13,119 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 125 fatalities related to the virus during a briefing Monday.
He says there are 3,848 cases in Queens, 2,646 cases in Manhattan, 3,742 cases in Brooklyn, 1,999 in the Bronx and 877 in Staten Island.
Mayor de Blasio says as of Sunday night, there were at least 2,213 people hospitalized with at least 525 in the ICU.
The mayor says 400 ventilators from the federal stockpile will be coming to New York City, but believes they will need 15,000 of them in the weeks ahead.
"We're going to literally be in a race against time," says de Blasio.
Mayor de Blasio also says some inmates will be released and there will be cuts to city spending as coronavirus cases surge. He says some inmates were released Monday, and others were being revewied for possible release.
The mayor says all city agencies will be directed to cut spending except for spending on the COVID-19 response.
He says he believes the White House should fully invoke the Defense Production Act to make sure the city gets the ventilators and supplies it needs
"This crisis is in its infancy compared to where we're going," de Blasio says.
