Queens Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani says Adams "sold us out for another personal favor," while former Bronx Assembly Member Michael Blake added that Adams "kissed the ring of Trump."
Former NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer took a softer approach, saying the mayor is the "only New Yorker breathing a sigh of relief tonight is Eric Adams."
Other candidates are pushing for more action. Current Comptroller Brad Lander and investor Whitney Tilson are calling for Adams to to resign.
Brooklyn Sen. Zellnor Myrie sent a letter to the judge presiding over Adams' case, asking him to reject the DOJ's directive to drop the charges, and instead assign a special prosecutor.
Queens Sen. Jessica Ramos asked New York Attorney General Letitia James to investigate whether Adams and President Donald Trump struck a deal to stop the case from proceeding.
One prominent Democrat who's been noticeably silent on the update is former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who's reportedly considering his own run for NYC mayor.
