Mayor’s office issues safety reminder ahead of New Year’s Eve

The NYPD says thousands of officers out of uniform and in uniform will be patrolling the streets and subways to ensure safety.

Mayor Eric Adams addressed New Yorkers on Friday as the city prepares for thousands of residents and visitors to take over Times Square and all corners of the city for the highly anticipated ball drop.  
The NYPD says thousands of officers out of uniform and in uniform will be patrolling the streets and subways to ensure safety. 
“The goal of public safety is both seen and intentionally unseen. The NYPD and our other local public safety apparatus, they’re going to have a visible presence,” said Adams. “But at the same time, they’re going to be among the crowds, so that people don’t know exactly who’s present and who’s here.” 
According to the Department of Health, if you plan on being around a lot of people you should make sure to get vaccinated, boosted, or receive a flu shot. The agency also advises that anyone planning on doing drugs to create an overdose safety plan with someone they trust.
