Melrose neighbors remember Bronx teenager following fatal stabbing in East Harlem
A 62-year-old man was arrested and charged with murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Candles, messages, and photos sat outside of an apartment building on East 154th Street in Melrose, as family members and neighbors remembered 17-year-old Carlos Rivas.
Police said the Bronx teenager was stabbed in the chest and lower abdomen shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, near East 108th Street and 2nd Avenue in East Harlem.
The victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
News 12 was told that Rivas was with a 22-year-old friend, who was stabbed in the left arm and is expected to survive.
Police said the two got into an argument with 62-year-old Saul Sanchez, of Manhattan.
Neighbors said Rivas was well known, well loved and well-behaved.
“He was a very nice kid,” said Anita Birmingham, of Melrose. “On Friday, he even helped the lady upstairs with her groceries and everything. Then, to hear later that this happened to him is really messed up. I mean, I think it’s senseless.”
Sanchez was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.
