Local girls spend spring break with SoundWaters’ Science Stars program

Students were in Melrose learning how to grow and prep foods that are grown in the Bronx. It's all thanks to a new city initiative called Reimagining Farm to School NYC.

The program comes from the city's Office for Urban Agriculture. Students at Community School 154 Harriet Tubman Learning Center got their hands dirty at the New Roots Community Farm on the Grand Concourse, learning about urban farming and healthy foods in the process.

The kids got to tour the community farm and get up close and personal with the peppers, tomatoes, onions and other things that are being grown there.

Two local chefs put on a cooking demo showing the students how to put together a delicious meal with all of the food grown locally.
