A memorial for Luis Cartagena, who was fatally stabbed this past Fourth of July, was held in Morissania on Monday.
Dozens of community members came out to pay respects to Cartagena, who would have turned 27 the day of the memorial. Family and friends joined together on Park Avenue, talking about his love of cars and the community’s love for him.
“He was loved by everybody, the community, his family friends and peers. He had a whole car team that everybody loved him in,” said Cartagena’s cousin, Johnny. “They came, showed up and lit candles outside, so right now it’s just been a very stressful and difficult moment, especially to have him gone.”
Luis Cartagena also leaves behind his 6-year-old daughter, Liana.
Police say that they believe Cartagena’s killer is Joseph Gomez, who was arrested hours after that stabbing took place. He currently faces charges that include murder and manslaughter.
