Beyonce's dad Mathew Knowles announced Wednesday that he is battling breast cancer, shining a light on men to be on the lookout for symptoms.
The father of music icons Beyonce and Solange told ABC's "Good Morning America" that he is battling breast cancer.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a little less than 250,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Fewer than 1% are men.
But Dr. Victoria Forte from NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County says some men are more at risk than others.
"If there's any family history of breast cancer, patients should be tested and counseled," says Forte.
Symptoms to be aware of are lumps, bumps or redness in the chest or armpit area. And, as with any disease, early detection is key.
