Mets outfielder Kevin Pillar took a 94-mile-an-hour hit to the face Tuesday and is thanking his lucky stars Wednesday that he was able to walk off the field.
Pillar says he feels good and can't wait to play again but knows he's very lucky.
"The ball just got on me so quick, before I knew it I was on the ground," says Pillar. "A couple of inches right or left, it's my eye and who knows what happens there."
Pillar ended up with a couple of broken bones in his nose and two black eyes.
"Aside from my face looking the way it does and not being able to breathe out of my nose, I feel great," says Pillar.
Pillar needs surgery so he's not going to be able to play for a while.
This is the second time Pillar took a ball to the face. When asked if he will start wearing a helmet with more protection he said, "probably not."
