A group of community organizations in Brooklyn is giving away toys to recently arrived migrant children and their families.
The giveaway took place in the Prince Joshua Avitto Community Center in East New York on Thursday, where the holiday spirit was definitely in the air.
This is the latest in a series of events organized by the Eastern Brooklyn Emergency Response Collaborative, which is made up of a number of local community organizations.
Beyond just toys, dozens of vendors were at the giveaway, providing resources such as legal assistance, housing support and mental health services. Families at the event received hot meals, clothing and school supplies.
For many of the families at the giveaway, this will be their first holiday season away from their home country and loved ones, and they say they are grateful for the support from the community.
