Dozens packed a Mill Basin bowling alley Sunday for a fundraiser to raise money and support people who have been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy.

Muscular dystrophy is an illness that causes weakness to the body and loss of muscle mass.

The bowl-a-thon event at Funfest Bar & Lounge featured Noah, an 18-year-old diagnosed with the disease, as this year's ambassador. Shannon Brady, his mother, said attending this year's bowl-a-thon was full circle for her family.

"I first attended, I think, it was maybe 15 years ago, and Noah was only 2 years old at the time. He wasn't even diagnosed with the disease," Brady recalled. She said having Noah participate with her and his father as this year's ambassador was their biggest reward.

"It felt good to see him bowl... We got him out to interact with a whole bunch of other people," said Phillip Serrano, Noah's father.

This year’s event was the first since 2016. Organizers say they hope to raise thousands for researching a cure for the disease.
