The
cast and crew from the Brooklyn-based mob drama “Gravesend” rushed to help a
14-year-old boy who was struck by a car on Monday.
The
incident occurred on Avenue X near West 2nd Street.
An
80-year-old woman was driving her 2005 Chevrolet westbound on Avenue X when her
brakes failed, according to police. They say she made a left turn southbound on
West 2nd Street and rear-ended a 2021 Toyota vehicle, then struck the
14-year-old male who was walking his dog.
Crew
members, including the show’s creator and lead actor, William DeMeo,
rushed out when they heard the boy screaming and worked together to get him out
from under the car.
The
teen was taken to Maimonides Medical Center where he is in critical, but stable
condition.
“For
me, I just feel like God was there with us and it’s just fate," said
DeMeo, who described how the crew lifted the car to reach the boy who was
bleeding. He also said the dog was fine.
The
Gravesend crew says they plan to visit the boy once they finish filming their
second season.
The
driver and the 85-year-old male passenger were transported to NYU Langone.
