You may have seen a colorful mobile vaccine van in your community Thursday, and it's all about bringing the COVID-19 vaccine to neighborhoods that need it most, like the Bronx's Hunts Point community.

City officials are pushing for more and more New Yorkers to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as the highly contagious delta variant is very prevalent in the city.

According to the city's Department of Health, the delta variant accounts for 41% of tested cases across the five boroughs. Communities like Clason Point and Soundview neighborhoods in the Bronx have a 2.10% positivity rate - one the highest in the Bronx.

In Brooklyn, Brighton Beach, Manhattan Beach and Sheepshead Bay is seeing an incredible number of cases with a 2.9% positivity rate.

The rise in cases is why Dr. Maurice Wright, the chief medical officer at NYC Health and Hospitals, says the mobile vans will create easier access to the vaccine.

The City Department for the Aging is hosting mobile vaccine vans at multiple senior centers across the city as well. 

There will be a van at the Hope Gardens Multi-service Neighborhood Senior Center on Linden Street in Brooklyn on Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Another van will be in Manhattan at the Lenox Hill Innovative Senior Center also from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
