A Bronx mother and her husband are accused of choking and beating an 8-year-old girl.
According to the criminal complaint, 21-year-old Curtis Younger, the girl's stepfather, put one hand around her neck and squeezed until she had difficulty breathing and passed out on Dec. 3. He is charged with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood flow, endangering the welfare of a child and disorderly conduct, court papers say.
Younger's wife, 26-year-old Tyesha Younger, is accused of hitting the young girl in the throat with a closed fist, also at their Manor Road home in Soundview on Dec. 3. She is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, harassment and attempted assault.
Police say the 8-year-old claims her mother and stepfather also doused her with a bucket of water to wake her up.
The city's Administration for Children's Services would not comment on whether the couple's children were taken away from them, but did comment on the situation.
"We are deeply concerned about the allegations involved in this disturbing case," the agency says in a statement. "ACS, along with NYPD, is currently investigating."
The parents did not want to comment on the allegations. They were released after arraignment without their children.
