A new COVID-19 antibody treatment available in the Bronx could help at-risk patients beat the virus and avoid hospitalization.
The Montefiore Medical Center and its new infusion clinic have distributed a one-time antibody infusion to about 720 patients since December.
They say 90% of people have avoided hospitalization. They say continuing care and guidance after the treatment is also provided.
"This is very clearly not for patients admitted to the hospital because of COVID...these are early-stage high-risk people,” said Dr. Priya Nori, director of Antimicrobial Stewardship.
Dr. Nori says patients should inquire with their testing site or doctor about the treatment.
She says it’s important to know that it’s recommended to wait 90 days between getting the antibody treatment and getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
