Greater access and accessibility will be coming to breast cancer patients in the Bronx as Montefiore has opened a new state-of-the-art breast cancer center at the Hutchinson Metro Center.

The center will be a game-changer for patients. Leaders at the center’s opening say that across the U.S. it usually takes around one month to schedule the necessary procedures after an abnormal breast exam, as well as an additional 60 days before cancer treatment gets started.

At the Montefiore-Einstein Comprehensive Care Center, those with an abnormal breast exam will be able to immediately consult with surgeons and radiologists and determine the next steps in real time.

The facility offers screening studies, advanced imaging, minimally invasive surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and more.

“Care is very fragmented, people have difficult lives with a lot of real problems and don’t have a lot of real time for their health,” said Dr. Sheldon M. Feldman, chief of breast surgery and surgical oncology at the brand-new center. “By being able to package everything in one beautiful place, women and men can come who have health concerns.. can be evaluated properly and get the care they need by a compassionate staff.”

Feldman says the facility has been in the works since 2018.
