Moped rental company Revel shut down its New York City service Tuesday, the company announced.
Revel made the announcement in a tweet saying in part, "New York riders - starting today, NYC service will be shut down until further notice."
Mayor Bill de Blasio also announced that service would stop after 32-year-old Jeremy Malave struck a center light pole while riding his Revel moped in Queens.
Police say he failed to properly navigate the moped.
Former News 12 reporter 26-year-old Nina Kapur was killed in Brooklyn two weeks ago after the Revel moped she was on crashed.
Neither Kapur or the man driving the moped were wearing helmets.
Revel says, "We’re reviewing and strengthening our rider accountability and safety measures and communicating with city officials, and we look forward to serving you again in the near future."
Revel services Miami, New York, Oakland, Washington, D.C., and is slated to begin service in San Francisco.
