More
residents are eligible for the coronavirus vaccine as New York is expected to
see a surge in supply.
Anyone
50 or over is now eligible for the vaccine.
Gov.
Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that 7.7 million vaccines have been given out
with more than 2.65 million New Yorkers fully vaccinated.
The
governor is calling on more providers to become vaccine sites as he expects
supply to increase, and even have the AstraZeneca vaccine possibly become
available.
Cuomo
says there are racial inequities with less Black and Hispanic people taking the
vaccine.
He
says he understands distrust of the vaccine, but is urging New Yorkers to take
it.
“We
will have enough vaccines to vaccinate people,” Cuomo says. “We have to make
sure we have the capacity and the willingness to take the vaccine.”
Cuomo
says there is still a lag in supply from the federal government, but is asking
New Yorkers to be patient and not to show up at vaccination sites without an
appointment.
