Morris Heights mom seeks help to combat vermin infestation
A Morris Heights mother says she need help combating an infestation of rodents in her apartment.
Frieda Harris has lived in the apartment, located at 1970 University Ave., since last July. She says an infestation of mice and rats have been an issue since she moved in.
Harris says that a rat bit her 3-year-old daughter on the face in February and landed her in the hospital with a 104-degree fever.
After that incident, Harris sought help from her landlord, the Department of Housing Preservation and Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office, but she says nothing has come of it.
Harris then went to housing court to try and solve her issue.
Her landlord’s attorney says three dates were agreed on to allow an exterminator into the apartment. The attorney says on two of the dates, the exterminators weren’t allowed in, while on a third date they were only allowed in for a few hours instead of the entire day, as was agreed on in housing court.
Both Harris and her landlord’s attorney say the last time pest control was used was on March 20. The landlord’s lawyer says Harris was supposed to contact them if further extermination was needed.
Harris is due back in housing court on Friday.
