G&R Italian Deli in Morris Park recently went viral on social media for its twist on an ice cream cone.
Owner Carolina DiFuccia told News 12 she came up with the idea on a whim.
"It was busy that day and I didn't want to cut anything on the slicer. So there was four meatballs that my brother made that day. I said, 'I'll just make an Italian ice cream cone'" she said.
The viral sensation is a loaf of Italian bread, with the soft inner contents scooped out. She then fills the "cone" with their homemade meatballs, mozzarella, sauce and tops it off with grated cheese.
DiFuccia said they have sold 300 so far, and they are trying to keep up with the demand.
"We can't make enough meatballs! I make another batch and they're gone... It's nonstop," she told News 12.
A line of customers stand outside the door, and residents tell News 12 that the attention is justified.
"The meatball cone... I think it will become legendary," one customer said. "You have to taste the meatballs. Nobody makes meatballs like G&R, their food is outstanding!" another customer said.
DiFuccia told News 12 that customers come for the food and stay for the family - and that's what makes their deli so special.
