The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Brooklyn through 9 p.m.

- A RIP CURRENT STATEMENT is in effect this afternoon through this evening. Dangerous rip currents are expected at Brooklyn and Queens beaches today. Rip current risk could extend into Friday.
- It's foggy and mild this morning. Temperatures are in the low to mid 70s.
- Today will be hazy, hot and humid. Highs will be in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees.
- Heat indices will be between 92-96 degrees this afternoon.
- A strong cold front will bring a cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The timing is after 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Drenching downpours, damaging wind gusts, hail and a brief tornado is possible. There's a risk for localized flooding for poor drainage areas and low-lying areas, downed trees and powerlines. Stay tuned for updates.
