Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 9 p.m. tonight for Nassau County.
Strong to severe thunderstorms could produce damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, as well as hailstones up to 1 inch of size in diameter. A low chance for tornadoes is also possible.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Spring will go out with a bang as strong to severe storms move through the Long Island area thought tonight.
There will be a cold front sliding through the region overnight, helping to lower the humidity levels for Friday. It will still be warm, but at least it won't be very uncomfortable, with high levels of humidity being pushed away. The new summer season arrives at 10:41 p.m. Friday when the summer solstice occurs.

The air turns muggier on Sunday. There will be a threat of some spotty to scattered showers coming through, but otherwise, it is a mostly cloudy day. Temperatures will feel into the upper 80s, but will start to feel even warmer afterwards.
Monday through Wednesday of next week will have temperatures trending above the average high of 79-80 degrees for this time of year. Factor in building humidity, and it will feel even warmer, as some spots could feel into the upper 90s to low 100s.
The skies will be mostly sunny during that stretch as an area of high pressure builds across the area. It will be pushed away from the region going into Thursday and Friday, where temperatures will go back down to more seasonal levels.

OVERNIGHT: Storm activity fades with warm temperatures and a sticky feeling in the air. Humidity levels will be trending lower by daybreak. Lows: Mid- to upper 60s.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny, with a comfortable breeze. Highs: Mid-80s. Lows: Mid-60s.
SATURDAY: Mix of sun and clouds. Highs: Mid-80s. Lows: Upper 60s.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy, with spotty showers in the afternoon. Highs: Mid-80s. Lows: Upper 60s to low 70s.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny, hazy, hot and humid. Highs: Mid- to upper 80s. Lows: Upper 60s to low 70s.
