Mother arrested, charged after baby abandoned at Penn Station

A mom has been arrested and charged for leaving an infant at the 34th Street-Penn Station subway station on Monday.

According to police, Assa Diawara, 30, of Queens, was arrested and brought into custody early Wednesday morning.

Diawara was charged with abandonment of a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say she entered the station on the southbound platform of the 1 train and abandoned the baby girl wrapped in a blanket.

Officers were dispatched to the area and found the infant, then transported her to the hospital for evaluation.
