A nonprofit group is Mott Haven is doing its part to help those impacted by hurricanes.
Volunteers at Emergency Rights have been gathering donations to send to Puerto Rico and other areas recently hit hard by hurricanes such as Irma.
The cause is especially touching for group founder Awilda Cordero, who has family in Puerto Rico, on which the catastrophically powerful Hurricane Maria has its sights set.
"It hit Puerto Rico already and now it's going to hit us again, and I think it's going to hit us even worse," she says.
Volunteers say they're looking forward to taking all of the donated items to Puerto Rico and other affected areas themselves. Until then, they say they will continue to collect donations until affected areas are in the clear.
