On the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, the MTA announced plans to create a new division to tackle weather-related issues.
The department will be a reorganization of sorts, consolidating different groups handling the same tasks.
The team will coordinate the MTA's responses to storms, blackouts and heat waves.
The news came the same day the city repeated its pledge to give the Rockaways, which were hit hard by Sandy, $145 million for projects to better protect the area from coastal storms.
