2h agoThe Metropolitan Transportation Authority has announced they're increasing services on the 1 and 6 trains for a short commute time.
The MTA says this more efficient service plan is going to impact around 2.9 million riders who use the 1 and 6 lines on the weekends.
The initiative is just the beginning of their rollout to increase transit service and allow commuters who will wait two minutes less in between trains. Starting Saturday, the time will be cut down to a 6-minute wait.
MTA officials say the effort was made possible through the $35 million funding from the 2024 state budget. According to MTA's Chair and CEO Janno Lieber, it’s a fulfilled promise to expand transit service outside of weekday peak times.
Shorter wait times aren’t the only change that's happening to make commutes easier. This latest improvement also comes with the release of the MTA's new and improved app, allowing riders access to features like live bus tracking, recommended routes and service alerts.
