The MTA is partnering with the city to propose its version of a new normal that would make getting on the subway accessible for everyone.

They are aiming to make every subway station in the city wheelchair accessible.

There are 472 subway stations but only 131 are accessible to all riders. Through the new Elevate Transit Initiative, private developers who build near the subway must coordinate with the MTA to deliver new elevators while expanding access for riders with disabilities and seniors.

Zoning for Accessibility will begin a formal public review process at a meeting scheduled on April 5.
