MTA plans to give $500,000 to surviving families of workers who died due to COVID-19

Some financial relief is coming for families of MTA employees who have died from coronavirus.
Through this pandemic, transit workers have continued to provide transportation services to essential workers.
News 12 is told more than 50 MTA employees have died, and more than 2,200 workers have tested positive.
To help the families of those workers, the MTA has set up a benefits agreement that includes a payment of $500,000 to the surviving family of any worker who lost their life as a result of COVID-19.
Families of MTA employees who died while in active service on or after Feb. 1 will be eligible for the payment.

The agreement is expected to be signed by April 22.
The union president says they plan to continue fighting in Albany for additional benefits to help families left behind and honor their sacrifices to the city and state.
