The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is taking a more hands-on approach to customer service, as the over 2,200 subway station agents citywide will no longer be in booths.
The change to bring agents out of the booths and onto the platforms is an effort to help commuters' experience in public transit.
Station agents Ellen and Jaleny are already on the move, helping riders with MetroCards and machines in Parkchester.
"It's efficient," said one rider. "It's good, get these workers [out] from behind the booth helping people."
Commuters say having agents ready to assist around the mezzanines, turnstiles and platforms is a good improvement and helps with communication.
Six additional customer service centers will open in the subway system through the end of 2023, allowing local station agents to have more one-on-one interactions to help customers navigate the transit system.
