As many people begin their end-of-the-year cleanout, some are starting with their Christmas trees.
The timing is perfect for the Parks Department's annual
MulchFest, where residents can drop off their trees and have them turned into mulch.
Trees can be brought to designated drop-off locations throughout the borough through Jan. 11.
Chipping will take place on Jan. 10 and 11, and the mulch produced will be used for trees and gardens across the city.
On chipping days, residents can bring their trees, watch them get chipped and even take home a bag of nutrient-rich mulch for their own gardens.
In the Bronx, there are 10 drop-off locations, five of which will offer on-site chipping.
If residents choose not to use these options, trees can still be recycled by placing them out with regular garbage. All ornaments, lights and decorations must be removed, and the tree should not be placed in a bag.
