A mural depicting the eventual flooding of City Island made its debut in the community on Sunday.
The artwork – inspired by climate change -- was painted by Wes Roundtree and it has big 2050 across the mural to inform the public that if things don’t change by that year, the island will be under water.
"I thought like okay, how am I going to make a doomsday mural look pretty?” said Roundtree. “So instead of destroyed buildings, flooded buildings I decided to do waves. So, people had to ask me what 2050 mean? I tell them, and they were like okay. Hopefully, people pay attention, and we can get those flood walls."
Sen. Nathalia Fernandez got Roundtree the property owners’ permission to place the mural on that site.
