A mural of the late Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights icon, was defaced in Greenpoint on Thursday.
The incident occurred at a home where a two-way mirror is installed, commonly known as Greenpoint Glass.
The homeowner said they called the police to see if it might be investigated as a hate crime, saying that after police arrived and then revisited their home later, that they were not able to file a police report.
Police have since said there is a report on fire for criminal mischief, but not a hate crime.
An artist has already fixed the mural by a 16-year-old Greenpoint artist.
Prior to Rep. Lewis’ mural being painted there, there was a different one of Breonna Taylor, who was killed by police officers in Kentucky while serving a no-knock warrant.
