People in the Bronx are saluting a Yankee legend in their own special way.
Elected officials in the 161st Street Business Improvement District and fans came together Sunday to unveil a mural of legendary pitcher Mariano Rivera.
The Yankees are also dedicating a plaque in Yankee Stadium's Monument Park to Rivera.
The artwork of the pitcher known as "The Sandman" is not the only new addition to "murals row" near the stadium. The artist of the project also unveiled a mural of Jackie Robinson, the first African-American player to break the color barrier in the big leagues.
Rivera was the last player to wear Robinson's number, 42, before it was retired.
The new paintings add to a collection of 12 murals of baseball stars along River Avenue.
In his illustrious career, Rivera helped lead the Yankees to five World Series titles and is the all-time saves leader. He retired in 2013.
