Monroe College celebrated Women's History Month Wednesday by inspiring the future generation of women leaders.
This was the first time the school hosted "My Sister's Keeper," an annual conference held to motivate, inspire and equip women with the resources and skills needed to reach their full potential.
Students took part in a variety of discussions and topics that included college and career preparation, mental health and wellness, and future financial planning.
Loren Santana, 15, admitted she was surprised how much she enjoyed the event, but most of all what took away from it.
"I feel this event make me realize I can really be an important person in this world," Santana said
Organizers say that believing in oneself is a first step in reaching one's full potential, and lays the foundation to groom future leaders.
Elsewhere, women are continuing to make their mark on the city. For the first time, the New York City Council has the most women, as well as in Mayor Eric Adams' administration.
