New York City officials have set up a helpline following the NYCHA lead paint crisis.

Comptroller Scott Stringer announced last week the city would launch a helpline for NYCHA residents who have experienced lead issues inside their buildings.

The launch of the helpline followed by a series of public hearings are the result of 1,160 children living in NYCHA buildings who tested positive for elevated and deadly levels of lead in their blood between 2012 and 2018.

The mayor's office first announced only 19 children were found to have high levels of lead in their blood while another study revealed hundreds more actually did.  

The first public hearings will be held Sept. 17 in Harlem and the number to call for help is (212) 669-4088.
