Fireworks and the Fourth of July go hand in hand … but to make sure you don't end up losing one, all fireworks are considered illegal in New York City.
According to local law enforcement officials, it is illegal to use, buy, sell or transport fireworks of any kind.
New Jersey Fire Bureau Chief Lou Kilmer says even sparklers reach temperatures of 1,200 degrees.
Sparklers are illegal to use in the city. Police say they may also seize vehicles caught transporting any fireworks into the city.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, fireworks attributed to 11,000 hospital visits and at least four recorded deaths in 2016.
The only exceptions to fireworks in New York City have been shows like the one Macy’s puts on, which are operated by professionals.
